Philippians 1:20;27 / 3:14-21

As we conclude our journey in becoming spiritually F.I.T. we will look at T – Trained Living.  I will only be providing the main outline for the last message of this series from the book of Philippians, because I want to focus on making the Gospel personal in the lives of students, and that can only be done with the moving of the Holy Spirit.  I want to encourage you if you are using this series to approach this final message with diligence.  I want to challenge you to live a lifestyle that is pleasing and acceptable unto God, but don’t forget that in order to become spiritually fit one must first be saved.  The goal in presenting this final message is to realize that living a spiritually fit life does not just happen by accident.  You must train and prepare yourself for the journey ahead.  So as you run this race of life remember that there is a purpose, a plan, and pattern in the lives of those who run this so called race we call life.  Watch this next video “Run the Race”, read through the outline of this message along with the scripture, watch the final video “My Jesus”, and make a commitment to Christ to set down the spiritual junk food of this world and from this day on live a Spiritually F.I.T. life.

Purpose vs. 20

  • So that Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or death

Plan vs. 27 ; 3:14

  • Conduct ourselves worthily of the Gospel
  • Stand fast in one spirit
  • Be of one Mind
  • Strive for the faith of the Gospel
  • Press toward the goal for the prize  (Run the race that is set before you)

Pattern 3:17-21

  • Untrained
    • Their glory is their shame
    • Their god (greed) is their desire
    • Their mind is on earthly things
    • They are enemies of the cross
    • Their end is destruction
  • Trained
    • Their body is conformed to His glory
    • The God is their desire
    • Their mind is set on heaven
    • They wait and rely on the return
    • They are able to subdue all things

If you have never asked my Jesus to be your Lord and Savior wont you do it now?  If you simply confess Jesus as your Lord, and believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins and rose again you will be saved. – Rom 10:9

Pray this prayer with me, and let me know you did.

“Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and I need you to save me.  Forgive me of my sins, and come into my life as Lord and Savior.  I turn from my sins, and I trust you now. Amen”

I would love to hear from you.  Be sure to comment below or Contact me.

From Fast Food to F.I.T.: Intentional Proclaiming

mcjesusPhilippians 1:12-18

As we continue our journey in becoming spiritually F.I.T. we will look at I – Intentional Proclaiming.  Often times Christians get this idea in their head that they will eventually or someday start reading their Bible and living a Christ-like lifestyle which is so far from the truth.  That is like telling yourself that one day you’re going to go on a diet and yet you never change your grocery food list or restaurant selection.  It is impossible to eat healthy when all we do is consume McDouble quarter pounders, and the same goes for our spiritual health.  The Bible says in Romans 3:11,21 “There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God” and apart from the righteousness of God nothing can be revealed.  Because God is righteous He desires to reveal great things unto us as stated in Philippians 2:13 “It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”  Unfortunately because of our poor diet consisting of junk food and garbage we leave no room for any healthy consumption.

Read Phil. 4:12-18

So let us define the two words.

Intentional – An action taken based on Intent; premeditated; willful; planned deliberated; studied

Proclaiming – (Hebrew – Kaw Raw) to preach; teach; declare; make known

So in order to Intentionally Proclaim we must first be prepared or studied prior to the proclamation or sharing of God’s Word.  When you have indulged into the fruit and meat of God’s Word then the proclaiming will just be an outpouring of energy resulting from healthy consumption.  For example when you eat healthy foods you find yourself having more energy than you ever had.  Activity just pours out of you, unlike when you over-eat fatty foods all you want to do is lay around and sleep.  So let us “Grasp” how we can become intentional stewards of Scripture so that we might intentionally proclaim God’s Word.

To start off, trace your hand on a sheet of paper and title it: “Six Ways To Get A “Grasp” On Your Bible.”  Label these fingers.

On the little finger, write the word “HEAR”. That’s one way we can get God’s word in our lives. – Rom. 10:17

The next finger, write the word “READ”.  That’s the second way.  – Rev. 1:3

The third finger, your long finger, is the word “STUDY”.   – 2 Tim. 2:15

The index finger, is the word “MEMORIZE”. – 1 Peter 3:15

The thumb is the word “MEDITATE”. – Ps. 1:2-3

The palm is the word “APPLY”.

These are the six ways that you can get a grasp on God’s word.  Hear, Read, Study, Memorize, Meditate, Apply.

When you get a grasp on God’s word you want to have more than just the little finger.  Most Christians, the only way they take the Bible into their life is they hear it.  They don’t read it or study it.  They come to church.  They just hear it.  Hold your Bible with just that little finger.  It’s not much of a grasp.  See how easy it is for it to be pulled from your grasp?  On the other hand if you are holding it with all 6 then you will be studied, prepared, and capable of Intentionally Proclaiming.  It will pour out of your life, and out from your lips.

If you have been following us in this series of Spiritual exercise you will have now understood the purpose in being spiritually F.I.T. and you will have taken the first two steps to having a healthier walk with the Lord: Fervent Prayer and Intentional Proclaiming.  Check back next week as we work out with T – Trained Living, and we continue our study in Philippians.

From Fast Food to F.I.T.: Fervent Prayer

mcjesusLast week we looked at the Fast Food Spiritual Lifestyle that wants things here and now.  This spiritual lifestyle consists of quick simple choices that lead to results.  However often times this is why Christians are so unsatisfied with their walk with the Lord, because the results are not what they expected.  These types of results lead to spiritual obesity and fat hearts and heads.  Today I want to take a closer look at the F in the acronym F.I.T. which is Fervent Prayer.  In today’s society God’s prayer feed is so filled with “Thank you for the food I eat” and “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayers that you know that our relationship with him is hindered due to OUR lack of intimacy and authenticity.   Let us consider these key aspects to a healthy and F.I.T. prayer life:

Philippians 4:4-9

Benefits of Fervent Prayer: vs. 5-7

  • Removes anxiety and fear
  • Guards your heart and mind
  • Establishes your relationship with God

Formula for Affective Prayer:  Matt 6:9-13

  • Praise – Adoration/Thanksgiving/Love
  • Purpose – God’s Will for your life
  • Provision – Supplication
  • Pardon – Expiation/Confession
  • Protection – Supplication
  • Petition – Intercession
  • Persistence – Consistent/Constant

Applications of Constant Prayer:  1 Thessalonians 5:17

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the Apostle Paul makes an astonishing statement that we are to “Pray without Ceasing”, but what does that really mean?

To sum it up, it means that we are to pray whether we feel like it or not.  I’m sure there were many times in Apostle Paul’s life where he didn’t feel like praying.  Maybe when he was shipwrecked three times, or when he was beaten and stoned on many occasions, but either way he prayed because he knew that in prayer he was strengthened.  He knew that God could see him through even the most difficult situations.   To pray without ceasing can also pertain to what we meditate on.

1.    Meditate on things that are: vs. 8

  • True
  • Just
  • Pure
  • Lovely
  • Good

2.    Pray In season and out

  • Good times, and the bad
  • Desire or No desire

Prayer Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Selfish Prayer – Seeking only answers and results that we desire / Vain Glory
  • Shallow Prayer –  Lacks Intimacy and authenticity
  • Corporate Prayer – Praying because it is something we are suppose to do / Only praying during gatherings

Too often we make prayer more complex than it really is, but on the other hand we neglect prayer because our perception views prayer as mere simplistic speech.  Prayer is more than simply bowing our heads and speaking to God. Prayer is an attitude born out of a relationship. We don’t pray to some idol, but to a loving Father, one who desires an intimate relationship with us.   Don’t get stuck on the form of prayer or traditions of prayer — rather focus on the unique relationship we have, through Jesus Christ, with God the Father.

From Fast Food to F.I.T.: Purpose

mcjesusToo often Christians get caught up into the fast food lifestyle that it rolls over into our Christian walk. With the Sonic Drive thru Church, Pizza Prayer Hut, Kum & Go Communion, and McJesus we quickly become overweight and spiritually obese. For the month of May I want to challenge each of you to avoid fast food religion, and start consuming nutritious Christ centered meals that will lead to a healthy, fit, and well rounded faith. Apostle Paul will be our trainer, and Philippians will be our health chart.

In this book Paul is writing to the Philippians concerning their spiritual growth and progress in the faith. While there were no doubt areas of worldly fat that needed to be trimmed away, overall they were much healthier than that of the Corinthians and Galatians. Because of this Paul’s epistle will be a great encouragement in our spiritual health.

We see in verses 6 – 11 and 25 of chapter 1 that God has begun a good work in each of us, but it will not be complete until the day of Jesus Christ. We see that becoming F.I.T. is a progression.
From the book of Philippians we see the purpose and requirement to being spiritually F.I.T.
