“Chime of Salvation” – One Deer’s Victory Over Death

This morning was a beautiful cold November 9th morning, the air was crisp, and the wind was still.  I was positioned twenty feet high in a deer blind, and was enjoying nature at its finest.  I was surrounded by birds, squirrels, and various other animals.  It was about 7:00am sharp when two large does came walking to my stand.  They positioned themselves exactly 20 yards away.  I decided I would wait, and see what else might come in.  To my surprise the largest doe I had ever seen (HUGE!!!) steps onto the scene.  She hangs out at about 5o yards, and does everything she can to bust me.  She lifts her head straight into the air to sniff me out, her ears point straight in my direction, she stairs into my soul multiple times, and yet I was able to keep my cover.  She then headed down wind of my stand, to see if she could wind me, but Scent-A-Way has me covered.  After fifteen minutes she comes within range, so I pull out my range finder one last time to determine yardage. She gives me a perfect broadside shot at 20 yards; however her rear quarter is behind a tree.  I draw back my Browning bow on her, and wait until she takes that last step completely clearing the tree.  I am seconds away from harvesting this monster doe when all of a sudden “CHIME!!!!!”, my phone goes off – it was a text about my buddy shooting a doe.  It was over.  The herd of deer began to blow, and make all kinds of racket.  My heart sunk into my stomach, and I was tore up.  I couldn’t believe I forgot to put my phone on silent.

I was tempted to title this article: “Is Technology of the Devil”, but I knew I would be biased right now.  I soon realized that there was a more beautiful picture here at hand, and that is the picture of salvation.

While hunting I usually place some corn out in order to get the deer to stop where I want them, and that is much like what happens in each of our lives.  In life each one us are like a deer, we are the prey and Satan is the hunter.  We are destined for death. Like the doe this morning, she had no chance of ever saving herself. She fell for the trap that I had set for her.  She could not resist the the tasty temptation of the sweet corn, and she was seconds from having a Muzzy MX3 broadhead pierced through her side.  Luckily however, she was saved by a simple chime.  It wasn’t until she was made aware of her circumstances did she even realize she was in danger.

As individuals each and everyone of us will eventually be caught within the cross-hairs or bow sights of Satan, and some will fall prey, and others will be victorious.  Over 2,000 years ago Satan laid out a temptation in which mankind chose not to resist, and as a result, each of us are born with a sin nature.  (Romans 3:23 “For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”)  Today, much like a deer hunter Satan watches his prey, and learns their habits, and that is what he uses to bait them.  We do not have the strength to resist the urge to taste the sweet corn (sin) on our own, and we fall victim to our sin.  Like the doe, it is beyond our own power to save ourselves.  If the chime had not intervened, that doe would have been harvested.  (Romans 6:23a “For the price of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.”) That doe was given a gift, the gift of life.  It was made aware of it’s present condition, and repented (turned away, and ran for safety).  Without Christ (son of God) stepping in and intervening on our part we would be destined for death (hell).  Christ died on the cross for our sins, so that we might be saved.  (Is. 53:5 “He (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions (sin)) It was Christ who was pierced, it was Christ who bore the Muzzy MX3 arrow on our behalf, so that we might be saved.  However; until people (deer) here that chime, they will continue to die in their sinful state, and go to hell.

Call to Salvation

Maybe your reading this right now, and you are caught in Satan’s bow-sights/cross-hairs.  Is Christ your personal savior?  If not, I suggest you receive Him now before you feel the piercing broadhead of sin/death taking your life.  (Romans 10:9 “If you would confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”)  All you have to do is believe that Christ died for you and that God rose him from the dead, and then ask him to come into your life and save you.  Ask him to step in front of the broadhead and bear your sin.

Won’t you go before God right now, by praying and asking God to forgive you of your sins and save you.

Once you pray, and ask God to save you I want to challenge you to do what the doe did this morning – repent (turn and run to safety).  Safety=Christ and the Word of God.

If you received Christ as your personal Savior I would love to hear from you. Contact me to let me know about your good news, and then go and share it with others.

Chime of Salvation

What is the chime you might ask?  It is the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we are the voices that broadcast it.  Anti-hunters are so quick to do anything they can to protect a deer, but we cant even mustard up the courage to “sound the alarm”, or even “play the chime”.  I want to challenge you to be active in sharing the Gospel, because if we don’t; like the deer people will never know that they are in danger, and they will die and go to hell.

On the lighter side

As Christians we should be like this deer, and lay the smack down on Satan and sin by leading others to Christ.  Enjoy the video:)

Deer Fever

With deer season just around the corner, I have already got the fever.  I can’t wait to get out into the deer woods.  I just bought a new Mossberg 30.06 and I am ready to put it to use.  I’m planning on tuning up the Browning bow this weekend, followed by some time at the range.

deer articleLast year I had a bad season, but I am destined to get one this year.  Anyways, I blog about this, because my wife knows how I get about this time of year.  I get impatient, and I need to go out and kill something.  I got to be a man!! Argh argh argh… no just kidding.  In reality I enjoy the deer woods so much, because It is the one time a year where I get to get out alone with God in the great outdoors.  It is a very intimate time with me and God.  “Search your hearts and be silent.” Ps. 4:4  Because of this my wife sent me this article that was actually paid to be published in a local newspaper.  You have to read it to believe it.  Enjoy!  In the mean time, I think I am going to go out back and pick some venison jerky off of my jerky tree.  :)

Three and a half more weeks until I get my hunt on.

Man vs. Wild Round 3

Well we have come to almost the middle of the season, and my luck has gotten me no where.  All of my friends are ahead of the game, and I am dragging behind.  The winds of luck are about to turn my way.  I went hunting on Saturday, and all I got was wind.  I thought for sure it had to die down at some point, but it didn’t.  Anyways, I am going to go again on Thursday & Friday, and I am going to claim me a deer.  I feel so redneck saying that right now.

I will keep you posted, but until then you have to watch this video it is hilarious. Be advised some rednecks might take offense to this video. I don’t care who you are this video is funny.

Another One Bites the Dust

On my way into work this morning my father-in-law called me, and said he needed help dragging out a big buck out of the deer woods.  I kindly headed that way, and when I arrived I was all decked out in church clothes.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  Anyways, luckily I had a spare shirt in my car; so I quickly changed, and darted into the woods.  When I finally found my father-in-law he had a huge smile on his face.  It turned out that this was his first deer.  I was very proud of him, especially since his first was a nice 9 pointer.  What happened next was a little unexpected.  He looks at me, hands me his knife, and in his own way told me to get to work.  Whether he knew how to field dress a dear or not I don’t know, but I do know that I ended up doing it.  That is ok, because I am very proud of him, and I look forward to all of our future hunts together.  Now I find myself sitting behind my desk stinking.  Cologne and scented candles just aren’t cutting it.  I’m gonna have to go home after lunch and shower.  *Note to self:  Be prepared for anything.

Man vs. Wild Round 2

I guess I am going to try my luck for a 2nd time to shoot the majestic buck.  I spent the afternoon sighting in my bow, making my clothes smell like dirt, preparing leaves with deer urine, and prepping to go and sit out in the freezing cold.  Sounds like a lot of fun right.  I used to think so, however now I ask myself why do I subject myself to this.  You sit for hours freezing just for that single moment when you are staring nature straight in the face.  My sights are fixed for the kill, and all I have to do is pull the trigger.  It seems there is always something hindering my shot.  The distance is too far, there are trees in the way, my sights are clouded, the deer is at a bad angle, or something.

Dreams can seem that way; out of reach, clouded, obscured, or just bad timing.  I had many dreams growing up, and I had all of the excuses in the world.  I dreamed of getting an education, marrying a beautiful woman, having an obedient well behaved son, and ministering within a loving church.  Finances were tight around the Williams family, and a college education was low on the totem pole.  All of the things that seemed impossible became a reality one day when I decided to stop making excuses, and just trust in God.  I am who I am today not because of anything I have done, but what God has done.  I recently read “Billy” which to me should have been called “Chuck”.  You have to read it to understand, but anyways it really brought out that even someone with what seems to be the greatest faith can crumble if they fail to truly trust in God.  Not just believing in who He is and what He has done, but trusting Him with every aspect of your life.

Many people today believe in God.  They have head knowledge of Him, as well as some heart knowledge, however they still lack what is known as dependence and submission.  I can believe in my heart all day that Jesus is God and died for my sins, and I can even believe He is Lord of my life, but that doesn’t mean that He is.  We need to take our faith to a new level, and truly trust God with every aspect, every morsel, every second of our lives.  No joke. It is possible through the Holy Spirit.  Many times we fail to realize the power of the Holy Spirit, and many times we even neglect Him.  You must realize that the Holy Spirit is not an it.  The Holy Spirit is God, and the sooner you realize that the closer you will grow to the Father.

I learned a new word this week, and it is “meism.”  It is exactly what it sounds like.  We are way too focused on self we fail to let God have control.  We wonder why God isn’t working in our lives; the answer is simple.  “When God is not in control of our lives, our lives are out of control.” – Dr. Gene Fulcher.

To Catch a Deer

I had an awesome day today spending time with God, and my father-in-law in the great outdoors.  We hunted for hours.  The greatest part of it all was the fellowship.    I am truly starting to love my father-in-law as if he were my own.  Then there were the long hours of silence where I was just alone with God.  During that time I could have cared less about shooting a deer, it was just a time with the Lord in sincere prayer.  I was able to do allot of thinking and self discovery.  I would encourage everyone to take some time, and just get out in the wilderness with God.  Jesus did it all the time.  Well we weren’t able to catch a deer (that is what Katie calls it), but I did get off a shot at one.  We looked everywhere for the arrow or even a sign of blood.  We spent the next 2 hours tracking this deer, and we found nothing.  It was pitch black by that time, and we couldn’t see a thing even with a flash light.  The good news is that the temperatures will be below 32 degrees so it should be preserved over night until we can look for it again.
