I have to start off by saying that this year’s lock-in would not have been near the success if it wasn’t for the movie “The Genius Club”. It set the tone for our whole evening. It intrigued our students, and really got them thinking. It also laid the foundational ground for the rest of the evening. After the movie, we broke the group up into 4 teams, and called them the Unintelligent Clubs. The kids got a kick out of it. We made them solve different riddles, and puzzles to obtain points. We even had our own terrorist. We called him “Chuck Norris Fidel” Don’t ask me where the name came from. All I know is the kids love Chuck Norris. (Walker Texas Ranger, World Karate Champ) Anyways, when the students first arrived we took individual photos of them, and then during the movie I made IQ profiles of them like in the movie. Their IQ’s were in the negatives, and we had funny saying underneath their pictures & IQ numbers. (Ex. John Doe, IQ -220, likes to fart in the bath tub to create bubbles.) Something silly like that. The kids were totally surprised to see their pictures up on the projector screen. We had a lot of laughs. At one point during the night I asked the students what their favorite part of the lock-in was so far, and many of them said the movie. I would definitely encourage you to check it out. I give the movie an A. It is filled with drama, and left us on the edge of our seats. It contains twist and turns, and leaves you with a unexpected ending. The movie for the most part is family friendly, and very interesting, however I probably wouldn’t recommend it for children 8 and under. I don’t think that this kind of movie would capture their interest. You should stick with something like “Vegitales, The Pirates that Don’t Do Anything” for them. For the rest of you definitely be sure to check it out. I purchased my copy from Lifeway Christian Bookstore, however I think you can get it a little bit cheaper through – www.cloudtenpictures.com while you’re their check out their other great titles. I have seen many of their other movies as well, so if you would like a review on them just let me know. Gather up the family, heat you up a bag of popcorn, put in “The Genius Club”, and enjoy.
